Pine Ridge's only grocery store to be vacated

The Oglala Sioux Tribe has revoked the building lease for the only grocery store on Pine Ridge because of continued complaints about spoiled food.

Highway 20 has operated the store for more than a quarter century, but the company has been given until August 4th to vacate the tribally owned building.

Tribal economic development director Lyle Jack says that he would not be surprised if the matter ends up in the courts.

The Sioux Nation shopping center was shut down for a week a year ago after complaints about outdated meat.

Highway 20 attorney Terry Pechota says the problems were fixed, and there have not been any new problems. He says he is optimistic that the company and the tribe can reach an agreement.
