Next phase of Memorial Park Promenade begins

The next phase of work has begun on an addition to the quickly developing new downtown Rapid City.

Crews have started work on draining the water from Memorial Pond into Rapid Creek in anticipation of the ongoing renovation of Memorial Park.

After the pond is drained, it will also be dredged & restocked with fish.

Destination Rapid City President Dan Senftner says he expects the pond will take 6 to 8 weeks to drain and the public will be very happy when the Memorial Park Promenade is finished, "We are really looking at this for a place the locals to enjoy more, to sit around it more. People fish it, sit around the pond, sit around the lake right now. Imagine a nice clean environment and nice place to do it in, so it really is community driven & again is all privately funded".

Once the promenade is complete in the spring of 2014, it will feature a scenic over look, fishing piers & a 35 foot fountain.
