Mayoral candidates rank their top priorities for Rapid City

Posted: Updated:

Candidate Mark Kirkeby and Incumbent Sam Kooiker continue to answer some of the big questions facing voters.

Tonight, we look at the candidates priorities for the city.

What are your top three priorities for Rapid City?

"My priorities for my next term are to continue our focus on addressing our aging utility and street infrastructure needs, to continue focusing in on economic development, and to continue to streamline our processes in city government to provide better customer service to our businesses, citizens and employees." Said Kooiker.

"First and foremost there has to be economic development and jobs, there is absolutely no question about that, we have a community that is hungry, that is desiring to go to work, to improve the quality of life that they do have, that's why I'm prepared to bring out, some bold economic development visionary ideas, credibility certainly has to be a number one." Said Kirkeby."We definitely have an issue with leadership or lack there of at City Hall and it's a direct reflection of me personally, on you, and our entire community base, we do have to have that respect, that dignity, and that trust with fellow leaders and right now I do believe that is lacking. And thirdly actually having that vision. Where do we want to be in 5 to 10 years?"

Tomorrow we continue the questions by asking the two candidates about their thoughts and plans for the civic center.
