Annual Women of Distinction Awards Breakfast held

They do more than just sell cookies,Girl Scouts make a difference in the community.

This morning, their accomplishments were honored at the Dakota Horizons 19th annual Women and Girls of Distinction awards breakfast.

This year, 15 nominees were honored in five award categories.

Each award recognized area women, Girl Scouts and supporters who inspire girls to lead.

Marsha Frericks, Southwest District Director of Dakota Horizons, believes the event is simply another way to remind young  girls that anything is possible.

"It's our future and the girls we serve are our future, and what better way to show them what they can be than to have this event honoring women."

State Command Sergeant Major Susan A. Shoe of The South Dakota Army National Guard delivered the keynote address.

Shoe is the first woman promoted to state command sergeant major, the highest rank a non–commissioned officer can hold.
