City approves lowering sewer rates

The Rapid City Council  proposed a minor change to the billing structure for wastewater.

This will mostly affect those that live seasonally in the city.

Those who have been billed seven units will be billed for five units.Right now, homes are charged seven units even if water is not used.

The decision came about as a way to be more customer friendly.

"The way the ordinance is set up is they are automatically set up for 7 units and this will allow us to be a little more customer friendly and charge them a fair number of units throughout the whole year." said Terry Wolterstorff, Public Works Director.

The first reading was today at the public works committee meeting.

It will go to city council Monday for a final vote.
