One of the Black Hills most traveled tourist highways is now open after the long winter.
Needles Highway in Custer State Park opened Friday and did not show any sign of wear and tear from the winter weather or logging.
12 miles of highway 87 were closed for logging during the winter months.
On Sunday, both tourists and locals were out traveling the highway and were pleased with its conditions.
"It's fine, a little bit of snow on the roads but all clear and good to go," said Matt Jones. "Just a little bit of tourist traffic but nothing bad, pretty usual."
Jones says he has traveled needles highway many times, and says right now is as good a time as ever to get behind the wheel.
