Fire leaves Box Elder couple homeless

A Box Elder man and woman are homeless Saturday night after their home was destroyed by a fire.

Assistant Box Elder Fire Chief, Ty Wilson, says embers left in a barbecue were not the direct cause of the fire.

Wilson says the fire started in the Kitchen, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

The couple were barbecuing on their front porch over a fire pit and say the left the fire embers low when they went to the store around 8 p.m.

By the time they got back their home was up in flames. A passerby had already called the fire department.

There were no injuries, however, one of their two cats is still missing, the other is safe an unharmed.

The renter, Will Howell, says him and his wife have lost all of their belongings in the fire.

The Red Cross was on scene assisting the couple and have put them in a hotel for at least a few days.
