Students in KOTA Territory had the chance to enjoy the outdoors and throw away their homework, literally.
For the 27th year in a row, 6th graders at Spearfish Middle school soaked up the sun while they let 81 hot air balloons take flight.
It's a project more than 100 students worked on for two days, and one particular 6th grader had the secret recipe of how to make the "perfect" balloon.
"Making the balloon is trying to get all the seams on right," said Zoe Peacock. "And then trying to make it glued perfect, and then if you get your seams on perfect then you get your balloon to go up higher."
The assignment is not graded; but teachers say it teaches students teamwork, how to listen, and to follow directions.
