Tree dedicated to the memory of officer at Rapid City Regional Airport

An airport officer who also served the Rapid City Police Department for thirty years was honored Friday.

Officer David Walton died in November at the age of 65. On Friday,  family, friends, and TSA staff planted a tree dedicated to the memory of RCPD Officer Walton at the Rapid City Regional Airport,.

After working in the police department, Walton became a law enforcement officer at the airport. Family and friends say it's important Officer Walton will be remembered.

"It's very meaningful to me and my family because David would have never expected it. We didn't expect it. It was very humbling for us," said Robbin Walton, Officer Walton's wife.

"He was everyone's friend. He was a caring loving, genuine individual and that's what makes his loss so hard to except," said Gene Eiring, Assistant Federal Security Director.

TSA staff paid for the tree. There will also be a stone placed next to the tree to identify the memorial.
