Rapid City woman pleads not guilty to aggravated child abuse

Posted:

A Rapid City woman has entered a not guilty plea to charges of aggravated child abuse.

Angelita Elk Boy, 38, was arraigned Thursday morning in Seventh Circuit Court. She is accused of leaving her 16-month-old child alone in their apartment in March.

Firefighters were called by neighbors - they had to break down the door to rescue the toddler. Elk Boy later appeared at the scene and was arrested for Driving Under the Influence.

Friday morning, she also pled not guilty to a fourth offense of DUI.

Her attorney requested a private investigator be hired to locate witnesses. The judge granted the request but denied a reduction in her $100,000 bond.

If convicted on all charges, she faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
