Former South Dakota Representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin has enjoyed a prominent political career serving as the state's lone representative from 2004 to 2011.
Right now she's focusing on her family and her job as corporate lawyer at Raven Industries in Sioux Falls. But is another run for political office in her future?
Many considered Democrat Stephanie Herseth Sandlin a safe bet to win another term as South Dakota's representative in Congress.
A sign Herseth Sandlin could return. But as 2014 draws near, she's still weighing her options.
Herseth Sandlin says, "If I decide to run, whether now or in the future, it's because I feel our voice needs to be in there".
It's a decision she says she'll make this month. But she has a lot to consider, first and foremost her family.
Herseth Sandlin says "I just have to make a decision that is best for Zachary and Max and for my parents. Political losses take a harder toll on one's family than they do on candidate".
Since the end of the campaign Herseth Sandlin has led a relatively quiet life allowing her more time to spend with her 4-year-old son, Zachary. Even giving her chance to get back to her hobbies.
The end of politics did open a door for Herseth Sandlin. In September of last year she was hired at Raven Industries. Herseth Sandlin says, "Being with this great company that is growing and doing exciting things. That gives me high job satisfaction. At the same time more balance."
Balance she's not sure she's ready to shake. But she admits the pull of politics is strong even more so since the announcement of Senator Tim Johnson's retirement.
While South Dakotans await a decision she says she is enjoying status quo.
