Doctor says Solles is fit to stand trial

After a psychological evaluation from the Human Service Center in Yankton, doctors say a Rapid City woman charged with sexual contact with a teenage boy and child pornography is competent to stand trial.

April Solles, 29, was initially deemed unfit to stand trial by doctors in Rapid City. Tuesday morning, a Yankton doctor testified via video conference that Solles does have a mental illness, depression, but she knows the seriousness of the charges against her and understands court proceedings.

Solles faces 10 years in prison for each child pornography and sexual contact count against her. The case first came to attention when Solles' baby daughter died under suspicious circumstances involving a teenage boy. Further investigation revealed there was a possible sexual relationship between her and the boy.
