Thune talks politics at national convention

Posted:

Senator Thune is in Rapid City Saturday, at the Back Country Horsemen of America Convention in Rapid City, to talk about hot button issues.

One of which was of course the sequester cuts and how they caused chaos in airports around the country with FAA furloughs.

Saturday, the FAA is getting back to normal after the cuts were suspended. Thune says they need bipartisan support in the senate for a broader solution.

"What we demonstrated this last week, and I very involved in the negotiations on the FAA fix simply because it falls under my committee's jurisdiction and so what we found was there was a bipartisan support for responding to that. Unfortunately it should have gotten to that point. It became a crisis and it didn't need to," says Thune.

Thune says the House of Representatives has moved several pieces of legislation through that would replace spending cuts with alternate spending cuts, to more low priority areas.

Karl Merbach, superintendent of the Solid Waste Operations, said the city decided to take the money it would have used to repair the Fairmont site and build the new facility.
