People gather in Rapid City to honor victims of crime

On Thursday, people including police officers, attorneys, and victims' families gathered to honor those in the justice system who help victims.

The event was held during National Victim's Rights Week. In addition to the people who help victims, families of victims were also recognized for what they have to go through people at the event say it's important to remember the victims.

"We spend so much time focusing on the perpetrators of crimes we show their faces on TV all the time and in the newspapers. Everyone remembers the bad guy's name, but almost no one remembers the victim," said Chief Steve Allender of the Rapid City Police Department.

South Dakota US Attorney Brendan Johnson was the keynote speaker. It was put on by the Pennington County task force.
