Mayoral Progress Report: Rapid City sees building boom

rMayoOrange cones and construction will be a common sight in Rapid City for the next several months.
From utility improvement projects in the Silver Street area, and the repaving of streets in the Robbinsdale neighborhood to the reconstruction of the Canyon Lake Spillway, there will be multiple projects underway as the weather warms.
In addition, city building permit reports show there is a housing boom in Rapid City. As of March 31, 333 residential building permits were issued.   Mayor Sam Kooiker attributes the boom to an upturn in the economy, the Bakken Oil Fields, and perhaps most importantly - a strong business sector.

Mayoral Candidate Mark Kirkeby says the City needs to take the time to thank local businesses and create and environment where they can thrive.
The Mayor briefed reporters on current city infrastructure projects at his quarterly progress report press conference Friday morning.
