Absentee voting in Rapid City election begins Monday

Registered voters in Rapid City who plan to cast a ballot in the June election can begin early voting on Monday.

The city of Rapid City and the school district have a combined election. Applications for absentee ballots are available in the office of the Pennington County Auditor as well as online.

Even though the city is electing a mayor, auditor Julie Pearson expects a low voter turnout. In 2011, during the last hotly contested mayor's race, only 32 percent or 13,694 registered voters made it to the polls. 2,863 voted absentee.
