KOTA Territory city receives "Community of the Year" award

Governor Dennis Daugaard names a KOTA Territory city "Community of the Year."

The award was presented to the city of Sturgis at the Governor's Economic Development Conference in Sioux Falls Tuesday night.

Sturgis Economic Development completed a thorough evaluation to determine what it needed to become a year round destination.

Pat Kurtenbach, President of Sturgis Economic Development says part of the 'revamping of downtown Sturgis will include a new downtown plaza at the corner of 2nd Street and Lazelle.

The plan also includes re-zoning the downtown area to allow residential buildings as well as businesses. All the renovations is part of a move to encourage visitors to visit Sturgis year round.

Kurtenbach says the award reflects the hard work of many groups to help build a better Sturgis.
