The effort to clean up Rapid City streets following this week's snow storm, is expected to bring a big bill.
Clean–up crews are expecting more long hours into the weekend to get all of Rapid City's roads back to normal conditions.
While the total cost of the clean–up won't be known for a few weeks, the price is expected to put a dent into the annual snow removal budget.
"This event will have a significant impact on our snow removal budget. We allocate about 100 thousand dollars every year for contract labor. On a night like Wednesday night where we bring in a lot of extra crews in for the downtown area, we can easily spend $25,000 in one night," said Terry Wolterstorff, Rapid City's Public Works Director.
It is only April, so whatever money is left in the annual budget will have to last through December.
