Deadwoods empty grocery market may become city's first chain store

Its been three years since Deadwood residents had a grocery store, and that's not likely going to change any time soon.

City officials say there is a possibility a new Family Dollar will fill an empty grocery store on Sherman.

If that's the case, residents may be able to get limited commodities such as milk and canned goods.

However, many will have to continue to get other groceries in Lead or Spearfish.

"I think in every community no matter how small you are you want a grocery store," said Director of Deadwood Chamber and Visitors Center, George Milos. "You want your school, your hospital and things like that. And I think the grocery store's a big part of the community."

According to Milos, a Family Dollar would be the first chain store in Deadwood.
