Rapid City woman accused of vehicle battery against grandmother

Posted:

A 27 year old Rapid City woman faces charges of vehicular battery. The alleged victim: her grandmother.

Heather Spotted Elk pleaded not guilty Friday to one count of vehicular battery, and two counts - in the alternative- of driving under the influence.

Prosecutors say they believe Spotted Elk was driving recklessly, possibly intoxicated, when she severely injured her grandmother, who was in the car with her. State prosecutors did not specify the injuries sustained by Spotted Elk's grandmother.

She faces 11 years in prison if convicted.
