Rapid City council members say they support a project to provide another housing option for low income seniors.
If the Good Samaritan Housing Project, that's slated to be complete in May, 2015, continues to move forward, there will be 50 new apartments on Wisconsin Avenue.
The one bedroom apartments would cost approximately $343 per month and the two bedrooms will be closer to $673 per month with all utilities paid. The apartments would also feature a fitness room, library and more.
The Danter Company, hired to analyze the need for senior housing in Rapid City, found that a market exists for the apartments, noting in their report that the senior population is expected to grow 6 1/2 percent between 2012 and 2017. "We have a good sense that the need is high and this will create a wonderful affordable living environment with some services," Ron Kortemeyer with the Good Samaritan Project said.
The report by the Danter Company shows there is little no vacancy at any of the City's senior low income apartments.
