A Rapid City man, who stabbed two homeless men outside of the VFW, will spend 15 years in prison. Monday, 23-year-old Nico Steele was sentenced by Judge Janine Kern to three 15-year prison sentences to run concurrently. He was sentenced to another five years for possessing methamphetamine, a sentence that will also run concurrently.
Back in September, three witnesses testified that Steele approached them outside the Rapid City VFW, and asked for a cigarette. When they refused, Steele stabbed two of them.
Steele will get credit for the 229 days he has already spent in jail.
Prosecutors say Steele has had ten arrests since turning 18 years old, including a conviction for assaulting a law enforcement officer in 2008.
