UPDATE: Trooper injured after responding to domestic violence call

A Black Hawk man faces aggravated and simple assault charges for injuring an a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper Saturday.

The officer was called to a home at 1:00 a.m. for a domestic abuse report. He was confronted by 23-year-old Marcus Onken outside the home.

The officer says Onken attacked him, leaving a cut on his face. The trooper was treated and released from the hospital.

A South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper was injured last night while responding to a domestic violence call in Black Hawk. There are very few details at this point. We do know the trooper was transported to Rapid City Regional Hospital. The extent of his injuries are not being released at this point. According to Lieutenant David Berkley, the incident is being investigated and more will be released at a later date.
