City breaks ground on waste facility

Citizens of Rapid City are one step closer to making their visit to the landfill a little easier.

The Rapid City Solid Waste division broke ground Wednesday on the landfill citizen campus.

The new $4 million project will feature a one stop convenience center, new scale facilities and a 24 hour recycling and yard waste drop off location.

Rapid City Solid Waste Superintendent Karl Merbach says that, the new project will not only make life a little easier but also much safer for small load customers, "They'll be able to come in, drop off their trash, pick up compost, drop–off recyclables, all in one area and be on their way in a good safe paved environment."

The new facility is scheduled to be complete & open for business by October 1st of this year.
