Toxicologists testify in fetal homicide case

Medical experts are testifying Tuesday in the case against a Rapid City man accused of attempted fetal homicide.

Attorney's spent Tuesday questioning potential trial experts (including a Denver Toxicologist) about herbs allegedly used by 35 – year – old Alfredo Vargas.

State Prosecutors say Vargas put two "so–called" labor inducing herbs in his former girlfriends soda with the intent to kill her unborn child.

Her baby was born healthy a few months later.

An OB-GYN and state lab expert also testified  about the toxicity and abortive effects of both drugs.

This same case was dismissed by Judge Mary Thorstenson last year after state experts were rejected by the judge.
