Some KOTA Territory college students were honored for their handiwork at a statewide competition.
Three Sheridan College students won first place in the written portion of the Skills USA Welding Fabrication State Championship in Gillette last week. The team finished second in the overall competition.
The group had to build a long distance shooting target. The students' teacher says the contest was a good test of what they've learned in the college's welding program.
"The kids' skill level and their training all goes into this thing. They have to be able to read prints. They have to be able to fabricate, to put things together," said Carl Schiner.
The students on the winning team were Travis Walters, Samuel Costalez, and Kyle Swedelius.
