Landowners urged to make sure brush piles are put out

The South Dakota Division of Wildland Fire Suppression wants landowners who have recently burned brush piles to make sure they are completely extinguished.

"We have had a couple of fires in the last day or so that were caused by escaped brush piles. The probability of ignition is going to increase with the predicted warmer weather and the resultant snow melt," said Fire Management Officer Ray Bubb.

All burn permits that have been issued will expire Sunday, March 31 at midnight. Depending on weather, burn permits could next be available on October 1, 2013.
