Convicted child abuser wants retrial

A Rapid City man convicted of severely abusing his newborn daughter may be granted another trial.
Patrick White Face, 42, was found guilty by a Pennington county jury of aggravated child abuse  in January.
Prosecutors say the newborn was so severely beaten that in addition to a fractured leg, she will suffer long term brain trauma for the remainder of her life. The abuse occurred in March of 2011, when the girl was just six weeks old.

Defense attorney Tom Diggins is asking a 7th circuit judge to consider granting White Face a new trial. A hearing on the matter will be held on April 16th.
White Face could serve up to 25 years in prison. Prosecutors allege White Face has a prior felony conviction for DUI. In 2001, second degree murder charges against White Face were dropped.
