Hot Springs voters deciding on Evans Plunge purchase

Voters in Hot Springs are at the polls Tuesday to decide whether the city should purchase Evans Plunge.
City administrator Harley Lux says the attraction generates an estimated $830 thousand dollars a year with $650 thousand in estimated expenses.

Lux says buying Evans Plunge would not only allow local control and the ability to keep it open to the public, possibly year round.

But it would allow the city to obtain the 1890 water rights.

A yes vote would allow the city to borrow up to $1.9 million to purchase and renovate the property.

Lux says the city would also create a special department to manage the site, much like spearfish did when transforming the old Walmart into a water park.

Voting is at the Mueller Civic Center until seven PM.
