Tears and last shared moments for dead hero.

It was a somber day for friends and family of Lyle Francis Eagle Tail yesterday.

A tearful funeral service took place at the Mother Butler Center in Rapid City from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those closest to Eagle Tail could say their last goodbyes, and share the memories of a man many describe as brave, courageous, and unselfish.

Just over one week ago, the 28-year-old man drowned while attempting to save the life of a child.

On March 14, Eagle Tail jumped into the freezing waters of the Big Sioux Falls River in Sioux Falls to try to save two others.

Madison Wallace, 16, was trying to rescue her younger brother Garrett, 6, from the water.

Neither Madison Wallace or Eagle Tail survived the brave attempt to save the young boy. Garrett Wallace was rescued.

Eagle Tail was buried at the Mountain View Cemetery.

Madison Wallace was laid to rest in Sioux Falls.
