Government cuts affect research funding at School of Mines

Posted:

Due to the sequester, research funding at universities is expected to be cut by $1 billion nationwide. It will affect schools locally.

Acting President at the School of Mines, Dr. Duane Hrncir, says research is a vital part of the school. He said it's hard to tell how it will affect the school this early on, but he knows research won't stop.

"Research will continue to grow here. We just have to be creative and diversifying in the ways the we get it funded," said Dr. Hrncir.

Besides the Federal Government, the School of Mines also gets funding from the state.
