Few candidates challenge Rapid City council incumbents

With elections nearing, Rapid City council candidates and incumbents are dropping off their petitions.

Mayor Sam Kooiker has already kicked off his re-election campaign. Challenger and current Republican State Representative Mark Kirkeby has also announced his campaign.  Both filed petitions at city hall Friday afternoon.

Running unopposed are the city council incumbents in Ward One - Charity Doyle, in Ward Two- Ritchie Nordstrom and in Ward Five- Ron Sasso.
 
In Ward Four, a former alderman challenges the incumbent- John Roberts.  Lloyd Lacroix was alderman in Ward Four for two terms starting in 2006. He also served as president and vice president of the council.
 
Candidates have until March 26th to submit their petitions with 50 signatures.
