Father of four accused of rape prepares for trial

A Rapid City man accused of raping a young child prepares for trial.

Michael Slaughter, 36, is charged with two counts of first degree rape and two counts of sexual contact with a person under 13 years of age.

Prosecutors say Slaughter, a married father of four, used his position in a community church to access his victim.

Tuesday, his defense attorneys requested that department of social services records be included in any trial proceedings.

Those records may need to be privately viewed exclusively by Judge Wally Ecklund because of privacy issues surrounding the child victim.

Slaughter previously faced criminal sexual abuse charges in Illinois, and was extradited from Wisconsin. He faces life in prison if convicted.
