Wyoming is one of only a handful of states without an indoor smoking ban and city government officials are losing interest in pursuing their own.
The Casper City Council will likely soon repeal a city-wide smoking ban, after a public outcry against the law. Other cities are now much less likely to pursue a smoking ban including Sheridan. City Councilman John Heath says the council has too many other issues on its plate to even consider a smoking ban.
"We've got bigger fish to fry. My energies, right now, as President of the City Council are to support the council in economic development, get with the community, bring jobs to this area," said Heath.
Sheridan bartenders believe the absence of a smoking ban helps their business and the local economy.
"We actually have people who will come in specifically because they see you can smoke in a bar. So we get people from Montana, Oregon, all these other non-smoking states and they're just absolutely pumped to be able to have a beer with their cigarette," said Hallie Cross, a Rainbow Bar bartender.
