Tax Tip: Make sure your return is accurate and complete

With only four weeks left to file taxes, the clock is ticking. But that doesn't mean you can get careless on your return.

There are a few steps you can take to make sure you have an accurate and complete return.

Before mailing, double check your social security numbers, birth dates and, refund or balance due.

And don't forget to sign your form. An unsigned return will be seen as an un-filed return.

If you do not think you can put together an accurate return before the deadline, you could file for an extension. You will have until October 15th to finish the return, but you must pay what you currently owe.

CPAs say extending will not make the IRS look twice at your return.

"Forget the myth, that, 'Oh if I file for an extension, I'm going to be red-flagged.' That is just a myth," said Mike Dell, a certified public accountant.

The tax filing deadline this year is April 15th. Your return has to be postmarked by then.
