Rapid City volunteers from Scull Construction are "raising the roof" for a piece of Rapid City history.
The second phase of the restoration of the McGillycuddy house started a week ago, but today the walls were put up in preparation for the trusses to hold the roof.
The historic home was designed, built & owned by Rapid City founding father Valentine McGillycuddy in 1886.
Historic Rapid City Vice President Gavin Williams says the restoration has provided some exciting & interesting challenges, "the fun part was going into the house and it was like a puzzle. We didn't know what happened to the house, we still don't know for sure what happened to the house. Started just digging around and kind of deciding if there's enough of the house to put it back to where it was...if the bones are still there"
Completion of the second phase should be complete in about 2 weeks.
Once the house is completed, Williams says they hope to use it to house & preserve the city's history.
