A major Wyoming sports event will return to KOTA Territory after a two year absence.
The State Soccer Cup will come to Sheridan Memorial Day weekend in 2014 and 2015. The youth soccer tournament will be played at the Big Horn Equestrian Center, a few miles south of Sheridan.
Sheridan and Big Horn last hosted the event in 2011. Shawn Buckley, the Executive Director of Sheridan Travel and Tourism, who lobbied to bring the event to Sheridan, says he is excited about the potential economic effects.
"The impact for those two days is going to be very noticeable. It's going to be a strong influx of people, families, youth, players, participants, etcetera, all based around this particular soccer event," said Buckley.
In 2011, the tournament brought 3,800 visitors to the Sheridan area. The event is in Casper this year, and was held there in 2012.
