Property taxes are on the rise in KOTA Territory.
Homeowners began receiving their property assessments in the mail last week. On average, the assessed property values in South Dakota have gone up between three and seven percent, that means higher taxes.
Homeowners have until March 14, 2013 to appeal the valuation to the Office of Equalization.
Coldwell Banker realtor, Lyle Grubl suggests having comparable neighborhood prices ready.
There are fewer homes for sale than last year, and Grubl said that makes for a competitive market.
"We've got a lot of buyers out there who are looking, so we've got a lot stronger market," said Grubl.
Grubl expects across-the-board increases unless the mill levy goes down.
