Courthouse riot instigator gets prison sentence review

Last year, he started a small riot in the Pennington county courthouse, after being sentenced to 50 years behind bars.
Monday, John Shaw, 20, received the first of four sentence review hearings he will have over the next two years.

Judge Janine Kern originally sentenced Shaw last August for discharging a firearm at a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, and possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated.

Judge Kern says Shaw still hasn't offered any apology to the court, after he slammed himself through a glass door and fought with sheriff's deputies after his sentencing.

Shaw is eligible for parole in 2037, after serving 26 years in prison. Defense attorney's hope to prove Shaw can be rehabilitated before that time.
