Missing boy discovered unharmed near Custer - guarded by Pit Bull

Posted:

A Custer family dog earned the title "Man's Best Friend" when he was discovered protecting a young boy who had wondered from home.

Custer County Sheriff Rick Wheeler says the three-and-a-half-year-old was tracked to a wooded area about a half mile from his home Monday morning.

The Sheriff's Office, Search and Rescue and Emergency Management joined forces to find the toddler near Little Italy Road. He was found wearing light clothing and snow boots - with his dog (a pit bull) by his side standing guard.

The boy was taken to the hospital as a precaution but was not hurt during his journey.

No names were released.
