The staff
at one KOTA Territory elementary school is doing its
part to make the student body feel more like a community.
Wednesday
morning, Robbinsdale Elementary hosted an Oyate ceremony – recognizing students
who excel in a number of categories including: academics, citizenship, and
principal pride.
Music is
an important part of this monthly event. Students and staff say it creates a
welcoming environment and leads to open lines of communication.
"You get
together and let all your talking out, and share what you want to talk about,
and we sing these songs just to have fun and just let loose," said Hailey Hofmaier,
Robbinsdale Student President.
"It just
helps kids realize that if they do something good, they will get recognized for
that, and it gives them something to kind of grow toward," said Heidi Long-Lind,
Robbinsdale Music Teacher.
Staff say
one of the most important recognition categories is academic improvement.
These assemblies take place one a month.
