The Rapid City Downtown Business Development Board met Tuesday evening to narrow down a list of potential projects for next year.
The main focus of the meeting was adding lighting along St. Joseph and Main Street from East to West Boulevards.
Board members speculated that by adding lighting people would feel safer, and wander beyond 5th Street and Mt Rushmore Rd.
They said, in turn more businesses would be drawn to downtown allowing for further economic development.
"The city is providing lighting in other parts, but there are no plans for any type of additional lighting for Main and Saint Joseph for, the way I understand it, 20 years," said Board President Terry G. Nelson.
The board is still gathering information on details, timing, and funding for the project. They're expected to know more at next weeks meeting.
