Bids for Canyon Lake Dam reconstruction opened

Posted:

The sealed bids for the Canyon Lake Dam reconstruction project have been opened.

The city received four bids, all of which were above the amount allotted for the project from the Vision Fund.

RCS Construction was the high bidder at $4,899,390. The lowest came from Scull Construction with a bid of $3,721,084.

"Hopefully, anytime we bid a project, we like to see projects come in under our engineers estimate. Although in this case it is still above our funding authority. We had about $3.5 million authorized for this project, and the low bid was a little over $3.7 million," said Public Works Director Terry Wolterstorff.

The bids will be presented before the Public Works Committee for review - then on to full Rapid City Council to select a bidder.

Wolterstorff said the dam project doesn't need to happen right away but there are seepages in the base. causing Canyon Lake to drain.
