The condition of the man who was shot by a Rapid City police officer last week is not being released. In fact, we may not know his status unless he dies or is released from the hospital.
The Rapid City Police Department will no longer provide a condition report for 20-year-old Elijah White Magpie. And, he is not listed in the directory at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
RCPD is referring all inquiries to the South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
White Magpie was shot last Thursday, a block from the public library by Officer Jerry Moore, a 25-year veteran of the police force. White Magpie is accused of threatening officers with a large butcher knife. Police did use a taser but it was not effective.
No officers were injured.
DCI spokesperson Sara Rabern does not expect to release any information until the investigation is complete - that could take 30 days.
