Rapid City Elks Theater goes digital

A historic piece of downtown Rapid City is moving into the digital age.

The Elks Theater makes the transition from a film based 35 millimeter projection system to a more modern digital one.

The new digital system will feature significantly improved video quality.

Here's the good news: the Elks Theater will not be increasing ticket prices to pay for the system.

Theater administrator Kriste Steinken says the growth in downtown rapid city was a motivating factor for the upgrade, "The reason we are doing this is because our downtown is exploding right now with lots of people coming in and all the new things coming in and the things going down here, the theater wants to keep up with the new and wants to keep up the new and what's going on, so it's a good move for us."

The 100 year old business is also in the midst of restoring the iconic theater to its original state in 1912.
