Math & Art collide for Engineering Week

Math and art - not a pairing you typically would associate with one another.

Tuesday, at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology as part of 36th Annual Engineering Week, Spearfish artist Dick Termes gave a lecture about how the two do in fact work together.

Famous for his unique brand of sphere based artwork, Termes related to students how he applies geometry and mathematics to create his "Termespheres."

He says the same concepts he applies to his art, apply to variety of things in life, "Whether you're into politics or whatever area you are into, if you start to realize that what we affect over here can affect the other side of the world this kind of artwork does that type of stuff."

Eighteen pieces of art by Termes will be on exhibit through February 28th throughout the first floor of the Devereaux library.
