A man arrested in connection with the shooting death of another man at a Rapid City motel parking lot has pleaded not guilty to a laundry list of charges.

Charles Birdshead, 30, is accused of shooting Eustacio Murrufo, 33, to death on January 7th at the South Dakota Rose Inn, while in the commission of a felony.

Birdshead was arraigned Tuesday on eight charges, including first-degree manslaughter, fourth-degree rape, commission of a felony with a firearm, possession of a controlled weapon and distributing methamphetamine to a minor.

In a statement on our Facebook page, Birdshead's mother, Karen Testerman said her son was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"He has helped youth and adults who needed someone to help them find the path to wellness and sobriety. Charles put the people first in his life," said Testermen.

A bond hearing is scheduled for next Monday. Birdshead faces a maximum sentence of life in prison plus 80 years if found guilty.
