Women in Rapid City, across the globe, rise up against violence

Posted:

Women across the globe are gathering together to share commonality of their struggles and their power in numbers. And Rapid City is joining the campaign.

A group of Rapid City women gathered at Main Street Square Thursday afternoon to join-in on a worldwide campaign to end violence against women and girls. The women danced and held signs to bring awareness to the global issue.

Nationwide, 1 in 3 women is a rape or abuse victim. Nearly a billion women are abused each year across the globe, thus sparking the first One Billion and Rising event.

"So the movement wanted to get one billion women worldwide to standup and show the world what it would be like if those victims were no longer with us," said Mallorie Heutzenroder, Development Director of Working Against Violence Incorporated.
