SD Senate committee endorses gun rights measure - KOTA Territory News

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ A South Dakota Senate committee has endorsed a measure that would put language in state law opposing any federal attempts to restrict the constitutional right to bear arms.
The State Affairs Committee voted 8-1 to pass the measure, which next goes to the full Senate.
The bill's main sponsor, Sen. Larry Rhoden of Union Center, says it's important to put the Legislature's support for the right to own and use guns in state law.
Rhoden says the measure does not deal with any specific federal proposal to regulate guns, but instead puts a provision in state law to oppose federal laws or rules that infringe on the right to bear arms.
The bill also would direct the state attorney general to go to court to protect that right.
