Annual Girl Scouts cookie crunch kicks-off in Rapid City

A group of KOTA Territory girls learn a sweet lesson about the business world Saturday while having a little fun.

Members of Girl Scouts-Dakota Horizons kicked-off their annual Cookie Crunch at the Rushmore Mall in Rapid City. Girl scouts helped local news personalities - including a few of our own - name cookies while blindfolded as well as eat a plate full of cookies in record time.

Marsha Frericks, District Director of Girl Scouts-Dakota Horizons says while the event can be a lot of fun, it's also a learning experience for troop members.

"We teach five skills, customer service and business ethics and we just keep building on that so it's more than just selling cookies," said Frericks.

The five skills of the cookie program are goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.

Cookies go on sale February 9 and are available for purchase until March 9. They will be sold at Rushmore Mall, Walmart, Target and other area businesses.
